Summer Theater Camp 2025!

Celebrating Our Heritage and Culture

Time: June 9-28 from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM (no workshop June 19th)
Ages: 8–12

Join us this summer for a transformative three-week theater camp designed for young creatives aged 8 to 12! Participants will embark on an exciting journey of self-discovery, cultural exploration, and creative expression. 

In collaboration with Speaking Out Collective and workshop leader Laura Mann Hill, this camp will explore identity and community through a creative artistic processes centered on collective story-creation. 

Through engaging activities and guided workshops, campers will:

  • Explore Stories of Heritage: Delve into tales and traditions that preserve cultural and personal identities.

  • Create Dialogue: Collaborate with peers to craft meaningful conversations about their unique experiences.

  • Develop a Play: Work as an ensemble to write, rehearse, and perform a play that highlights their personal heritage while incorporating perspectives from other cultures.

In this immersive camp, participants will gain exposure to diverse cultural practices, learn to understand differences, and celebrate our shared human connections while building creative skills and confidence. Guided by experienced instructors, they will practice cultural relativity and discover the beauty of unity in diversity. The camp will culminate in a special performance where families and friends are invited to witness the creativity and hard work of the young artists.

About Laura: Laura is a director, playwright, performer, educator, and Speaking Out Collective teaching artist. After directing youth theatre in a New York City public school for almost a decade, she returned to the Twin Cities. She is passionate about the power of storytelling to make change and build connections between communities. She has facilitated multidisciplinary art programs as a teaching artist, performer, and administrator for various organizations Art to Change the World, Children’s Theatre Company, Hamline University's Social Justice Theatre Troupe, Million Artist Movement, and the Language Attitude Institute. In addition to teaching theatre at Whittier International Elementary, some of her most recent projects include Co-Directing Lakeshore Players’ 20th Annual 10-Minute Play Festival and the world premiere of the play Diamond Dreams: The Legacy of Toni Stone at Youth Performance Company. Laura is thrilled to return for her second summer of teaching youth with the Center for Performing Arts. Laura holds a B.A. in English from Hamline University and a Masters in teaching from PACE University.
