MN Dance Theater

Young Children’s Division Dance at CFPA

MDT Young Children's Division (YCD) is a joyful introduction to dance for dancers ages 4 to 11. Students explore movement through imagery, music, and self-expression. Weekly classes:YCD Ages 4-6 Classes, Intermediate Classes, Boys Program Classes,. Session dates, registration and details on these classes can be found at MDT’s website below.

Classical indian dance: Ragamala Dance Company

Bharatanatyam, classical Indian dance, adults/youth, classes, workshops, performances

At the Ragamala Training Center, students receive classical dance training in the style of Bharatanatyam carefully created by the internationally renowned Padma Bhushan Alarmel Valli, considered to be one of India’s greatest living masters. This style is distinguished by its technical perfection and grace, and Artistic Directors Ranee Ramaswamy and Aparna Ramaswamy are dedicated to preserving and carrying on their guru’s tradition and passing it on to the next generation of dancers. Ragamala Training Center offers introductory through advanced level classes for ages 7 through adult.

West african drum & dance: Duniya Drum & Dance

West African, classes, workshops, residencies, performances

Join Alhassane "Sana" Bangoura from Guinea, West Africa for his dance class. Sana is a gentle, patient and experienced teacher who breaks down the music and movements so that dancers of all experience levels can participate in this dynamic dance form. Sana shares the name, purpose and ethnic group of each dance. All classes are accompanied by live drumming by Sana's talented brother, nephew and friends. The Bangoura Family is eager to share its rich culture with you!

Phala Tracy and Kathy Kienzle teach Suzuki harp instruction for youth ages 3–18. Program includes individual lessons, group classes and concerts, studio recitals, field trips, and other special events. Phala (BM, Oberlin Conservatory of Music; MFA, California Institute of the Arts) is a Suzuki harp teacher, and also teaches at Gustavus Adolphus College. Kathy (BM, The Juilliard School; MM, University of Arizona) is a Suzuki harp teacher, and also teaches at the University of MN and Augsburg College.

With 12+ years of teaching experience and over 10,000 guitar lessons taught, Zach teaches everything from rock to classical to improv and songwriting. His lessons are tailored to his student's interests while including foundational technique and theory along the way. Zach makes lessons fun for kids while helping them discover their creativity and love for music. He's had students from age 5 to 75 - all musical and personal backgrounds are welcome!

With his teaching experience, classical training, and time spent touring and recording with his long-time band of 20+ years, The Melismatics, he will give you a practical and well-rounded approach to music. He welcomes all learning styles and focuses on keeping lessons fun and positive. He caters lessons to each student's goals, which might include reading, ear training, composition, theory, or just having fun learning new songs or techniques. Offering in-studio and online lessons for guitar, bass, upright bass, and ukulele.

Music IS the universal communicator, educator, healer, and conflict mediator. Raycurt Johnson, a Native of Washington, D.C. has 30 years of experience as a private music instructor.  As a professional musician, Mr. Johnson’s journey has taken him far and wide. He has performed with celebrities such as Stevie Wonder, Natalie Cole, Bette Midler, and Carmen Mc Cray; played in ensembles including: Barry Haris Jazz Orchestra, NY, Akademisches Festival Orchestra, Leipzig, Germany, Kammerorchester de St. Laurentius, in Dessau, Germany, The National Gallery of Art Chamber Orchestra, American University Symphony, D.C. Concert Society Orchestra, and the Brass Solidarity band in Minneapolis. He is an activist for live music in public spaces worldwide and a promoter of civil and constitutional rights for performing artists.

Baritone Daniel Greco is a Twin Cities based performer, private voice instructor, master class clinician, adjudicator, and music director specializing in classical voice, musical theater, and contemporary CCM styles. He currently serves on the voice faculties of University of St. Thomas and Lutheran Summer Musical Festival and Academy at Valparaiso University where he also directs Musical Theater and oversees the Vocal Pedagogy Fellowship. He offers private lessons in studio, or online via facetime, zoom, or other virtual platform.

violin, viola: Meredith Vaughan

Meredith teaches private and group lessons to violin and viola students ages 3 and up. She has extensive training in Suzuki pedagogy and her teaching is grounded in the basic tenets of the Suzuki method: all children can learn to play an instrument; talent is developed, not inborn; and a positive, calm learning environment nurtures growth. Meredith is interested in both the creativity and the structure involved in learning a musical instrument and seeks to develop joyful musical excellence by working with students and their parents to foster enthusiasm and discipline for music. She is happy to accept both beginners and transfer students.

cello: Mikey Marget

private lessons, cello and beginning bass

Mikey Marget (they/them) is a freelance cellist & folk musician in the Twin Cities with over 10 years of teaching experience. In lessons, you can expect to learn a mix of traditional folk tunes, classical technique and repertoire, as well as improvisation. They play with various local bands in genres including country, jazz, punk, and indie. Mikey loves the challenge of getting a cello on an airplane and has played festivals in Denmark, Croatia, Tunisia, Chile, and across the USA. They have a Bachelor's in Music Performance with a Minor in Pedagogy from Lawrence University. Outside of music, Mikey enjoys big dogs, local community activities, and general silliness!
