Open Doors 38th & Grand: Join us!

Center for Performing Arts provides access for professional artists and inspired community members of all ages, experiences, and traditions to stretch their bodies and minds together. 

Cfpa will open the doors to our Sunroom Dance Studio from noon-4 pm on Saturday, August 24th, as part of Open Doors 38th & Grand. We are excited to participate in this event with our business neighbors!

12-12:20 Zumba with Darryl Sellers Zumba is a Latin-based, total workout, combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you leave class. You’ll enjoy dancing to Latin rhythms and other rhythms from all over the world.

12:40-1:00 Ballroom/Latin/Swing Dance with DanceMpls Professional Ballroom, Latin, and Swing Dancers Bonnie Inveen and Chris Kempainen bring style and techniques they have learned over the years to a fun and friendly atmosphere. Private lessons can be tailored to your personal needs and goals. From social to competitive dancers, they will provide the tools you need to be great.

1:20-1:40 Nia with Beth Giles Nia is movement and lifestyle practice that combines the power and grace of the martial arts, the joy and play of dance and the body-awareness and healing of yoga. This unique fitness class is both a work-out and a work-in—you’ll feel energized, joyful and centered when you step out of class. All levels of fitness are invited. Through movement we find health.

2:00-2:20 Green Dragon Kung Fu with Sifu Steve Salek Sifu Salek focuses on traditional styles such as Choy Lee Fut, Hung Gar, and Leung Ying (Dragon), but he also incorporates many ideas from other southern Chinese styles into his curriculum.

2:40-3:00 Qi gong (T’ai Chi) with Ellen Wahl You can learn to calm your mind and body by practicing these gentle movements for gathering your internal energy, or Qi. When done, even for brief moments, these postures can restore and refresh you.

3:30-3:50 pm MotionArt: modern dance for all ages. Demo class: youth classes, new at cfpa this fall! Youth (ages 3-12) expand their creative potential and kinesthetic awareness as they explore a variety of concepts within the dance elements of Space, Time and Energy, through playful improvised and structured activities, accompanied by acoustic instruments and a wide variety of music.

cfpa is a community built by artists for artists, teachers, students, audiences, and neighbors of many interests and traditions to assemble and develop their work. cfpa is dedicated to the vitality of the creative process, guided by the principle that art practice is stronger when it grows in context with divergent approaches and points of view. cfpa supports a range of practitioners to teach, learn, workshop, and practice, in order to sustain their work and their lives as creative and contributing members of their communities.
