Call for Applications: New Works of All Media / Ritual and Resilience

New Work Residency: Ritual and Resilience
For Works in Progress of all Media

Theatre, Dance, Visual Art, Music, Film, and New Media

CFPA will choose three Twin Cities-based artists – of any media and at any stage in their career – to make a new piece that in some way addresses ritual and resilience: ritual of all types (secular, cultural, religious, spiritual, mundane, ceremonial, invented, reinvented, quoted, etc.) and ritual’s relationship to/with/around resilience.

Artist will provide:

  • A rehearsal/work session in the first two weeks of November 2018, to be scheduled on acceptance, which CFPA staff attend for feedback. (Artist may invite others to this open rehearsal as desired.)
  • A presentation of the work in progress, open to the public, on the evenings of Friday and Saturday, December 14th and15th, 2018.
The precise scope of completed work will be negotiated between CFPA and the artist after the November open rehearsal.  CFPA expects the artist to create enough creative work to engage an audience for 20-30 minutes, to be followed by discussion.

CFPA will provide:

  • Access to up to 20 hours of free rehearsal/work space, to be scheduled as available through the CFPA office.
  • Presentation event logistics:
    • Publicity
    • Space
    • Static area lighting

Presentation will take place on the evenings of Friday, December 14th and Saturday, December 15th, 2018. Please note the selection process for these residencies is competitive and will be based on the artist’s proposed project, quality of work sample, achievability of goals, and relevance to CFPA’s mission and goals. We will announce residency artists on Sept 20th, 2018.

CFPA’s ReClaim series is an assembly space to connect all kinds of audiences, artists, experiences, and stories. Our events explore the vitality and evolution of American identity, and the ways in which creative works reflect our lived experience (or not). Our events grapple with the stories we hear and see, the stories we make and tell, and the ways in which we are (or are not) changed by creative representations of our experiences. We support artists who engage fiercely with the complex and contradictory nature of the human experience. We support audiences who yearn for greater personal engagement between works of art and the daily life of our community. We assemble for lively questions, dynamic conversation, and to encourage new ways of understanding each other’s lives.

CFPA produces art events on the Third Saturday of every month. All events are free and open to the public.
